Jigra Box Office Collection Day 3: Alia Bhatt Starrer Witnesses A Dip Amid Controversies

Jigra Box Office Collection: Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina's starrer is having a tough time at the box office. The movie had the lowest opening in comparison to Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video but witnessed a 43.96 per cent spike on the first Saturday. It was expected that the movie would see a slight spike in the numbers on Sunday, but to their disappointment, the day-wise collection has dropped.

Apart from the box office debacle, the movie has been embroiled in controversy, with netizens accusing the makers of stagging the box office numbers.

Helmed by Vasan Bala, the action thriller earned ₹5.65 crore on Sunday, October 13, according to early estimates reported by Sacnilk. Adding the three-day collection, the total stands at ₹16.75 crore in the opening weekend. Jigra had an overall 26.57 per cent Hindi occupancy on Sunday with a maximum reported in Chennai (75.50 per cent).

Jigra draws controversy

Jigra released on the big screens in Dusshera, but couldn't manage to attract the audience to the theatres. On one hand, netizens are claiming that theatres are running empty, on the other, makers are claiming that the movie is successful. This led to speculations that makers are resorting to "self-bookings" to maintain the "success" image. This practice is also called "corporate bookings".

Apart from corporate booking, the makers are also being accused of copying the plot from Divya Khosla Kumar's Savi. Divya’s film Savi tells the story of a housewife trying to free her husband from a high-security prison in England. It is inspired by the mythological tale of Savitri and Satyavan. The movie also stars Harshvardhan Rane in a pivotal role.
