Alia Bhatt 's latest release movie Jigra has been talked about for all the wrong reasons in the last few days. Directed by Vasan Bala and co-starring Vedang Raina alongside Alia, the plot follows a dedicated sister on a difficult journey to save her brother. Jigra opened to a lukewarm ₹4.25 crore on its opening day, registering the lowest box office opening in 10 years for Alia. It has so far earned ₹16.75 crore, with the third-day collection being ₹5.65 crore. As the film became controversial in the following days, it raised questions about the budget and cast fees related to Vasan Bala’s failed attempt.

Jigra budget and cast fees

As the film has fallen all the expectations at the box office, it has become an all-loss business for the makers. Reports suggest the movie's budget is between ₹100 and ₹150 crores, with the production costs estimated at around ₹50 to ₹60 crores. Due to ongoing controversy, the film is expected to fall far short of recovering its budget.

Alia Bhatt is reportedly earning between ₹10 and ₹15 crores for her role, while the fees for the other cast members have not been confirmed. The movie's total budget has not been officially disclosed. Jigra's opening collection in India was ₹4.25 crores, making it Alia's lowest opener since her 2014 film, Highway, the second film of her career.

Alia Bhatt ’s Jigra controversy

Jigra released during Dusshera, struggled to draw audiences to cinemas. While some online claim theatres are empty, the filmmakers insist the movie is a success. This has led to speculation that the makers might be engaging in "self-bookings," also known as "corporate bookings," to maintain an appearance of success.

In addition to these claims, the filmmakers are also accused of copying the plot from Divya Khosla Kumar's "Savi." Divya’s film centres around a housewife’s mission to free her husband from a high-security prison in England, inspired by the mythological story of Savitri and Satyavan. Harshvardhan Rane plays a key role in the movie.
