Bollywood actor John Abraham's latest outing 'Batla House' shows remarkable growth at the box office. The film crossed yet another milestone by grossing over Rs. 75 Crore on day 10 of its release. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter on Sunday and revealed that 'Batla House' has grossed a total of Rs. 76.57 crores.

Analyzing the Independence day release of the John Abraham starrer, Adarsh said that the open week has certainly proved beneficial for the film at the box office, and Janmashtami festivities has aided its business.

Batla House plot

John Abraham's 'Batla House' is inspired by the controversial encounter operation which took place in Delhi in 2008. As per media reports, a team of Delhi police raided a flat at Batla House in Delhi, which got termed as an ‘encounter’ or even a ‘fake encounter’ after two alleged terrorists were killed, one arrested and two escaped.

Speaking about the film previously, John Abraham had said that he was 'blown away' when he read the script for the first time.

"I was just blown away. It was the most intriguing, engaging script and I wanted to do it" the actor said.

John Abraham plays the role of ACP Sanjay Kumar, based on real-life supercop ACP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, in the film. Besides the lead actor, the  Nikkhil Advani's directorial also stars Mrunal Thakur, and Ravi Kishan, among others.

Brief on the Batla House encounter case: 

Operation Batla House, that took place on 19 September 2008 was a gun encounter between Delhi Police and Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists in Batla House locality in Jamia Nagar, Delhi. As per media reports, following the five serial blasts in Delhi on 13 September 2008, a team of 7 Delhi Police personals led by inspector Mohan Chand Sharma raided the location in connection with the bomb blasts. Two suspected terrorists, Atif Ameen, and Mohammad Sajid were killed during the encounter while two other suspects, Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan, were taken into custody. One accused Ariz Khan managed to escape, however, he was later arrested from the Indo-China border.

The investigation following the encounter led to arrest of a number of local people, leading to widespread allegations and protests by political parties, civil society groups, activists, especially teachers and students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University.

John Abraham's 'Batla House's & Akshay Kumar's 'Mission Mangal's box office clash 

John Abraham's 'Batla House' faced a huge tiff at the box office as Akshay Kumar starrer 'Mission Mangal' also released on the same day. Both the films were widely appreciated by the audience, however, while 'Mission Mangal' emerged as Akshay Kumar's biggest opener, the John Abraham starrer made a relatively slow start. However, the second-weekend collection of the John Abraham starrer shows remarkable growth, thus suggesting its possibility to be a box office hit.
