Veteran actor and filmmaker Naeem Sayyed, popularly known as Junior Mehmood, died after a long battle with stage four stomach cancer. He was 67 years old. The actor was battling with cancer in his liver and lungs, accompanied by a tumor in the intestine and jaundice. The actor was known for his contributions to Indian cinema through iconic movies such as Brahmachari and Mera Naam Joker, among others.
Veteran actor Junior Mehmood passes away
According to media reports, Junior Mehmood passed away at his home in Mumbai while he was undergoing treatment for stomach cancer. The actor's close friend Salam Kazi had earlier informed the public about his health condition and shared that he was put on life support.
He also said that Mehmood's health had been deteriorating over the past two months, resulting in significant weight loss. Initial assumptions about minor health issues took a severe turn upon medical examinations, revealing the distressing diagnosis of cancer in the liver and lungs, along with a tumor in the intestine, coupled with jaundice.
He told ANI, "He was ill for 2 months and initially we thought that he might have some minor problem but after that suddenly his weight started decreasing. And when the medical reports came, it said there was cancer in the liver and lungs and a tumour in the intestine and he has also developed jaundice. So the treatment going on, but the doctors said it’s a stage four cancer."
Junior Mehmood's family friend confirmed the news to ANI and said, “He passed away last night at 2 am in Mumbai. He was suffering from stomach cancer and was not keeping well for the last few days. His last rites will be performed in Santacruz burial ground after today's afternoon prayers.”
Celebs who met Junior Mehmood
Upon receiving news of Junior Mehmood's wish to meet them amid his cancer battle, Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar promptly visited the ailing actor on Tuesday morning, December 5. The two had even extended their support towards the actor and promised to help him during this challenging time.
Johny Lever also rushed to his home and paid the actor a visit. Although Mehmood Junior's children had reassured him of their ability to manage, Lever pledged to help them, assuring them of his constant availability. Salam Kazi expressed deep gratitude for Lever's gesture, saying that Lever was the first from the film industry to visit the ailing actor.
