A creative juggernaut, Kamal Haasan, a trained classical dancer, film director and star of more than 200 films – he is without a doubt one of the greatest performers in Indian cinema history. Even at the age of 61, the star appeal of the former child actor has not diminished as he continues to feature some of Tamil's most lucrative films. Here are some iconic roles portrayed by the actor:

1: Chachi 420:

Kamal Haasan has set a standard for the actors portraying women in the movies with his iconic Chachi 420. The beauty and grace with which he played the character of the woman in the movie, which was also directed, produced as well as co-written by him, was much appreciated by the audiences. Kamal looked beautiful in a woman’s get-up and played the role with utter perfection. The way he changed into Tabu’s husband at a short notice in the movie to fighting with the goons wearing a Maharashtrian sari, made the movie one of the favourites.

2: Dasavathaaram:

Kamal gave his fans a surprise with his commendable character where he played not just double or triple roles but 10 different characters in a single movie. The movie was also released in Hindi with the title Dashavatar the next year. From portraying the role of a former US President George Bush to an ex-CIA agent, Kamal was totally unrecognizable in prosthetic make-up. The movie had a wide storyline, Kamal Hassan once again proved his determination in the film.

3: Vishwaroopam:

In the movie Vishwaroopam, Kamal played two roles that were poles apart. The movie was one of the costliest movies to be created and the movie received lots of appreciation for its content and Haasan's two different avatars. Kamal portrayed the role of a classical dance teacher that loves cooking while he portrayed the role of an undercover RAW agent who fought the terrorists. Kamal justified the two diverse roles with his finest acting skills. The actor never fails to impress his fans with his unseen versions.

4: Indian:

Kamal Haasan always walks extra miles for his roles. He once again set a benchmark for his contemporaries and next-generation by turning a vigilante in the movie Indian. The movie was also dubbed in Hindi with the title Hindustani. The movie also became India's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in 1996. Kamal portrayed the role of a father and the son in the movie and did justice to both the roles.  Kamal 's and Michael Westmore's make-up in shaping the character of the father made it a historic movie.
