Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for the release of her film Emergency which is scheduled to hit the big screen on September 6. The actress-turned-politician, in a pre-release event, has shared her view on whether the biographical drama would potentially hurt some sentiments. She drew examples from her own life and shared that she does not take offence when she is mimicked. In the movie, the actress essays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Kangana Ranaut on people taking offence to her upcoming movie Emergency

In a new interview, Kangana Ranaut was asked if she is worried about people taking offence to her movie since it is based on a sensitive political issue. The Queen actress, who is known to not mince her words, shared that she has made the film based on her perspective and does not bother with what the people have to say about it. She then drew parallels citing her own example.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kangana said, "Main apni mimicry dekhti hoon. Kitne log mujhe mimic karte hain. Main to bohot zyada popular hoon mimicry ki duniya me. Bohot mere mimicry artist hain. Aisa nahi hai ki hum dekhte hain aur hum offend ho jaate hain. (I often see people imitating me. There are a lot of mimicry artists who try to imitate me. I don't get offended when I see them)."

She went on to say that if someone has taken the time to observe her well enough to be able to mimic her then it is a compliment and not an insult for her. She added, "Main kabhi second guess nahi karti ki ye mere baare me kya sochega, wo kya sochega. Maine ye film apne nazariye se banayi hai aur dekhte hain iska kya parinaam hoga. (I never second-guess what people will think about me. I made this movie from my own perspective, so let's see how it will be received).”

Akal Takht Alleges 'Character Assassination' Of Sikhs In Kangana Starrer Emergency

The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) have demanded an immediate ban on the film Emergency, claiming it tries to “character assassinate” Sikhs. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, addressing a press conference, also sought the registration of an FIR against the Kangana Ranaut, the film’s writer, director, producer and lead actor. Emergency, starring actor MP Ranaut, is slated to hit the screens next month.

The release of the period political drama has been delayed multiple times; it was previously scheduled to be released on November 24, 2023. Expressing strong objection, Gyani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar (head) of the Akal Takht, said it is clear from the released excerpts of the film that it has deliberately misrepresented the character of Sikhs as separatists, which is part of a deep conspiracy. This is a “despicable act” of disrespecting the community by “creating an anti-Sikh narrative about the martyrs of June 1984”, he said in a statement.
