Kangana Ranaut is one of the versatile Bollywood actors and has gained numerous accolades in her career span of 13 years in Bollywood. She has garnered many National Film Awards since her debut with Gangster to her last award for Queen in 2015. Many of her movies saw her essaying the role of a mental disorder character. Let us have a look at the movies where she appeared in roles with challenging mental health issues.

Gangster (2006)

Alcoholism - 19-year-old Kangana debuted in 2006 with Anurag Basu's Gangster portraying the role of an alcoholic. She received many accolades for her debut performance as well as the 'Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut' among other awards. Gangster included the cast of Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Shiney Ahuja in pivotal roles. It was a romantic film rumoredly based on the gangster Abu Salem and her girlfriend Monica Bedi, but no one has officially confirmed regarding the similarities.

Woh Lamhe (2006)

Schizophrenia - Directed by Mohit Suri, the movie stars Shiney Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut essaying the role of a filmmaker and a troubled actress respectively. Apparently, the movie was based on the story of Bollywood actress Parveen Babi who was suffering from schizophrenia. Ranaut’s performance is said to be one of her best performances.

Fashion (2008)

Substance abuse - Kangana Ranaut's bold performance as a troubled drug addict in the modelling industry was surreal. The movie was directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and included Priyanka Chopra, Mugdha Godse, Arjan Bajwa, and Arbaaz Khan in lead roles. The Manikarnika actor won numerous awards for her portrayal in this movie.

Simran (2017)

Gambling addiction - Directed by Hansal Mehta, the movie seems to be loosely based on the life of Sandeep Kaur, an NRI who was a four-time robbery convict. The cast includes Kangana Ranaut, Sohum Shah and Esha Tewari among others. The story captures the life of Praful and her struggle with gambling addiction.

Judgementall Hai Kya (2019)

Acute psychosis - The movie received a huge backlash from the psychiatric society for the movie's prior name as Mental hai kya. The makers then had to change the title to Judgementall Hai Kya. Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, the movie was produced by Ekta Kapoor. The film's storyline features Bobby, a dubbing artist, who was diagnosed with acute psychosis at a young age and how her life changes after new tenants come to her house.

Kangana Ranaut Latest movies

Kangana would be next seen in Panga releasing on January 24, 2020, alongside Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi, and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles. The Queen star will be seen in another film titled Thalaivi which is a multilingual film whose production will start after Diwali 2019. Recently, Kangana Ranaut released a smashing teaser of her upcoming movie Dhaakad, a female-led action film releasing in 2020.
