Karan Johar on ‘Kalank’: It was a global disaster, a setback for us

Karan Johar called his big-budget ‘Kalank’ a ‘global disaster’ and a ‘setback’. He said that the days where films would sell on star value and sets are over.

‘Kalank’ was considered one of biggest films to hit atres this year. major reason behind it was casting coup that makers had mand by bringing toger Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixt-Nene, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha. Despite casting and all efforts taken by makers, which included numerous songs and lavish sets,  film failed to live up to expectations. w, even producer Karan Johar has ackwledged that movie was a ‘global disaster’ and that its failure came across as a 'setback' for team.

Karan Johar on 'Kalank'

At a recent media event, Karan Johar disagreed when he was asked about being ‘numero u’ producer in film industry. He was quick to point out that his banner had recently delivered a ‘global disaster’, which was a ‘setback’ for team.  ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ director n said that re was everyone was trying ir best to deliver a good film, but fact that many big budget films didn’t live up to expectations of late showed that re was producer who was better than rest.

‘Kalank’ 

Kalank’ was a period drama set in pre-Independence era in 1940s. film was primarily love story between Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt’s characters. movie was directed by Abhishek Varman, who had directed ‘2 States’ before. movie was also first time Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit Nene had worked toger in after many years. film, mounted on a huge scale, could earn only around Rs 70 crore at box office.

w, Karan Johar will keep his fingers crossed with ar period drama ‘Takht’, which he is directing, and which features a big star cast again, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor,  Janhvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar.
