Kareena Kapoor Birthday: The actress is celebrating her 44th birthday today, September 21. Boasting a 25-year experience in the Hindi film industry, the Jab We Met star is known to mince her words. Be it discussing her equation with co-stars or a hot take on a raging topic like nepotism, Kareena has often steered clear of diplomacy, thus inviting controversies. Despite having mellowed down over the years, the actress has earned a reputation for being one of the most unabashed, straight forward and ‘bindaas' stars in Bollywood. Take a look at the 5 statements made by Kareena that raised eyebrows.

When Kareena Kapoor stirred the internet with her hot take on nepotism

Recently nepotism has gripped Bollywood with social media users and cinephiles accusing filmmakers of offering big movies to children of already established stars. The film industry remains divided on the issue of ‘outsiders’ vs ‘nepos’. While seldom bigwigs take a firm stance on issues like these, in a live chat with her fans on social media, Kareena Kapoor decided to do the opposite.

Discussing the topic, the Jaane Jaan star asserted that it is the audience who makes the stars and decides whether a film will be successful or not. Putting the onus on the audience she said, "Itna hi problem hai toh mat jaao na filmein dekhne". While the actress' honesty gave a refreshing change of pace in an erstwhile elusive celeb culture, she and her film Laal Singh Chaddha faced major backlash as a result.

I am not a Feminist: Kareena Kapoor

During the pre-release event of her film Veere Di Wedding, Kareena Kapoor's statement made headlines. Speaking to the media, the actress argued, “Well, I believe in equality. I won't say I am a feminist. I would say I am a woman. Above all, I am a human being. I am as proud to be known as Saif Ali Khan's wife as I am to be Kareena Kapoor. So, that's just the way I am.” The film narrates the tale of female friendships who navigate through their personal hardships together.

I don't need to be a size zero: Kareena Kapoor

2008 remains one of the most talked about years for Kareena. Soon after the release of her song Chaliyaa Chaliyaa from Tashan, the actress became an overnight sensation for her size zero figure. The beachside song featured the actress in a bikini, where she could be seen flaunting her figure. The Crew hitmaker self-admittedly went through rigorous training, dieting and changes in lifestyle for 1.5 years to attain the look. However, later she did release her role in promoting a certain body type as ideal which is unattainable for most.

Appearing at a recent podcast, Kareena admitted that she had to be a part of the action movie Tashan, which for her was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She shared that despite the massive weight loss, she never put any mental stress on herself to look the part. When asked if she would do it again, the actress shared, “Now, we are living in a generation where everything is accepted and I wouldn't like to say that such a certain type of body would be accepted for an action film. I think, today everyone and anyone can do what they want to. So I am ready for an action movie now also. I don't need to be a size zero.”

When Kareena Kapoor called Sanjay Leela Bhansali a ‘confused director'

Several Bollywood celebrities have often voiced their desire to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali at least once in their career. The filmmaker, who is known for his penchant for extravagant sets and opulent designs, is yet to work with Kareena. The actress had done a look test for the 2002 film Devdas but the filmmaker eventually signed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the film. The Chameli fame had a public spat with Bhansali vowing to never work with him.

In an interview with a popular magazine, Kareena shared, "Sanjay Bhansali is a confused director. He is a person who does not stand by his word. He doesn’t have any morals and principles in life. Tomorrow, even if he is the next Raj Kapoor or Guru Dutt, and if my films don’t do well and if I’m a flop actress, I will still not work with him." However, later Kareena admitted that her statements were blown out of proportion and she would collaborate with Bhansali whenever possible.

Kareena Kapoor appeared on a popular chat show with her brother Ranbir Kapoor in 2013. At the time the Animal actor was in a relationship with Karina Kaif. While the couple were keeping the relationship under the wraps, Kareena, being her candid self, let the cat out of the bag. When asked about which actress in the industry she would be willing to have a gay encounter with, the 44-year-old shared, “I'll probably be more comfortable with my 'sister-in-law' Katrina. It's all in the family.” Ranbir's reaction to Kareena referring to Katrina as her ‘sister-in-law’ grabbed eyeballs.
