Katrina Kaif in Zero & Bharat
Babita Kumar
Zero stars Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in lead role. This was their second project after Jab Tak Hai Jaan. In spite of having a huge buzz, the movie did not perform well at the box office. However, Katrina Kaif as heartbroken superstar Babita Kumar in the film got praises from both the audiences as well as the critics. Katrina’s screen time in the movie was less as compared to her co-stars.
In an interview with a daily, she opened up about choosing the role. She said that she had thoughts that initially someone’s screen time is more and she does not have to do this. But both, her director Aanand Rai and co-star Shah Rukh Khan, were so insistent and persistent that this was something which they really felt was going to be important for her to do. She added that she believed that Aanand Rai would not let her down in the journey, which was important for her and she took that leap. Katrina stated that it is okay to take a step outside of what one normally thinks and see what the outcome will be.
Kumud Raina
Katrina Kaif’s recent release was Bharat, alongside Salman Khan. The movie was a hit at the box office and her role as Kumud Raina received a lot of appreciations. In an interview with a leading daily Katrina talked about why she selected the role. She said that she made a demand to the director before accepting the role. It was, she will only do it if the character is strong and she found that in Kumud. The role was something she wanted to take as a challenge. She stated that she felt there was a lot for her to do in the film and it was a fantastic experience. Katrina mentioned that she could be wrong but her role in Bharat is the best in her career, on paper.
In another interview with a news portal, Katrina said that Kumud was a strong and unusual character. As it was written for someone else (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) it ended up being unlike anything she has done before. It was challenging to immerse herself into the character and give it all she had. She added that the journey of Kumud spans from 1975 to 2010 in the film. She had to make the role come alive and the first thing was to have a strong command over the language.
