Kriti Sanon highlights Bollywood inequality, reveals she's upset over Kartik Aryan getting all the praise for 'Luka Chuppi' and rightfully so

Kriti Sanon, the ‘Heropanti’ actress, on Tuesday, expressed her disappointment over not getting equal credit for her contribution to the success of her latest release ‘Luka Chuppi’ while co-star Kartik Aryan is lapping up all the plaudits.

Mentioning that she was very glad that this conversation was finally happening, Sanon showed her discontent over the trend of overlooking the leading lady of the movie, highlighting how it was unfair and has been going on in the film industry for a long time now.

Kriti further added that it is utterly illogical when people praise only the male protagonist of the movie even though both the leading actors have equal responsibility, roles and contribution towards making a film succeed.

She said that it is very important that both the actors are given equal status and credibility on the basis of the efforts and hard work put in by them for making the movie a success and therefore both deserve a mention.

Luka Chuppi, a Laxman Utekar-directed rom-com chronicles the story of a couple living-in together in Mathura and the complications that follow. The movie revolves around both the lead characters deciding to explore the idea of a live-in relationship before getting married. But a twist in the story is that one of their parents come in town and are shocked to see that the two are living-in without having tied the knot.

Speaking to media, she expressed her views on male actors in the film industry also being paid a lot more than their female counterparts, saying that the remuneration should be in sync with two things — an actor’s role in the film and their capacity to pull in the audience.

Earlier, while speaking to PTI, Kriti Sanon had also spoke about how when actors play non-glamourous roles, the audience tends to notice their acting chops more:

“It’s weird but when you are in a de-glamorous role people see your acting more. When you are slightly more dressed up, it takes a while to see beyond the looks and the acting. Especially when they don’t already have a perception of you being an actor. Once you break that and they know you are an actor, then doing a glamorous part is okay. Then they say you are showing your range”, she mentioned.
