Who are Naga Sadhus?
Naga Sadhus are a part of the Shaivite sadhus, a branch of Hinduism that focuses on the worship of Lord Shiva as the supreme being. These Sadhus have a typical way of living and a distinctive physical appearance. They can be seen sporting large matted dreadlocks. They also smear ash all over their bodies. They do this to cover themselves, in a way, since they completely renounce clothes. They call this ash their shringar (makeup). They also wear Rudraksha Mala.

How does one become a Naga Sadhu?
The first step towards becoming a Naga Sadhu is to become a celibate. They must also give up all material wealth and desire for worldly things. They must be ready to not only serve God but also the country and people. The next step is to perform funeral rites for oneself, as their old self is to die and be born again as a Naga Sadhu. They are given a new name and identity by the Guru. Then comes the step of giving a series of tests to attain Brahmacharya. After excelling that, they have to take up the responsibility to protect the Sanatan Dharma and Vedic tradition.
