'Laal Kaptaan': Will the action film sail or sink at the box office?

The epic action-drama produced by Aanand L Rai and Eros International is all ready to enjoy a pan-India release. Laal Kaptaan features Saif Ali Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Deepak Dobriyal and Zoya Hussain in pivotal roles. The film will release on October 18, 2019. As per reports, massive anticipation has been surrounding the film ever since it was announced. The three trailers released in the past week have evidently increased the hype around the film even more.

Box office predictions

Saif Ali Khan has not given a box office hit for over four years now. The actor's recent outings like Bazaar and Chef were completely rejected by the audience and resulted in flops at the box office. The actor has now comfortably transitioned to the internet site of the entertainment world with the web series Sacred Games. As per reports, the film is reportedly expected to open on a mediocre note at the box office. The film will enjoy a solo release as The Sky Is Pink featuring Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra will release a week prior to Laal Kaptaan. Earlier, Saif's film was also going to release on October 11 but was reportedly pushed ahead to ensure a clean release.

Industry sources have stated that since the film is not being directed towards the family audience, it may also be a factor towards Laal Kaptaan's box office performance. It is expected that War and Joker from past weeks will hold stronger in their third weekend than the new releases. From the Hollywood front, Will Smith will feature on the silver screen with Gemini Man on October 11, which will provide additional competition to Laal Kaptaan's already intense race at the box office. The film will reportedly only have one week to shine at the box office as new releases like Made in China and Housefull 4 will start flooding in.
