Laapataa Ladies At Oscars 2025: The Kiran Rao directorial has officially been selected as India's entry for the Academy Awards by the Film Federation of India. The movie features Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav and Pratibha Ranta in the lead roles and is a light-hearted satire. Most of the film was shot on a train and railway station. Following the announcement of the film's submission to the Academy, the Indian Railways took to their social media account to express pride in being a part of the Oscar hopeful.

Indian Railways takes pride in being a part of Laapataa Ladies

Laapataa Ladies narrates the tale of two brides being swapped en route on a train journey as their faces are covered in a veil. This leads to confusion as Nitanshi Goel's character (Phool) is left stranded on a railway platform for days before her real husband, played by Sparsh Shrivastav comes looking for her. While stranded, Phool finds refuge in a street vendor selling street food on the platform and makes the place her temporary home.

As several scenes in the film took place inside a train and on the platform, the Indian Railways took to their official handle to congratulate the movie makers for the feat and express pride in being a part of the film. The post on X (formerly Twiter) read, “O sajni re… Bahut bahut badhai! Indian Railways is proud to be a part of such a wholesome movie."

It is a moment of collective joy and disbelief!: Kiran Rao's reaction on Laapataa Ladies being sent for Oscars 2025

The journey has just begun for Laapataa Ladies at Oscars 2025, says director Kiran Rao while admitting she is still in a state of "slight shock" to find that her film will represent the country at the Academy Awards. The journey has only just begun with being chosen as India's entry to the Oscars. It's a long and hard journey because there's a lot of expertise, money, and support required and a campaign strategy that one has to develop and carry through. We will put our best foot forward and try our best to take the film as far as it goes down this road towards the Oscars," Rao told PTI in an interview.

"I've not had a moment to breathe and soak it in entirely. But I spoke to Aamir and a few of my actors and team when we got the news. It is a moment of collective joy and disbelief! We’ve poured so much of ourselves into this film," she said. Laapataa Ladies, starring Nitanshi Goel and Pratibha Ranta, is a heartwarming and empowering take on two brides in rural India in 2001 who accidentally get swapped during a train journey. It also stars Sparsh Shrivastav, Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma.
