Lata Mangeshkar birthday: Amitabh Bachchan uses Marathi, recites poem

It was a legend wishing a legend when the decision to award the Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Amitabh Bachchan was announced, as Lata Mangeshkar conveyed her greetings to Big B. A few days later, the veteran actor reciprocated the gesture as Lata Mangeshkar celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday. The megastar shot a special video to convey his emotions, while stating that the magic of Lata Mangeshkar can’t be expressed in words.

In a video Amitabh Bachchan shared on Twitter, he said that there were many relationships in the world that could not be accounted for, like Lata Mangeshkar's songs and that of her listeners like Amitabh Bachchan.   

“Lata ji, I convey my heartfelt greetings to you for completing 90 years,” Bachchan says in the video. He then conveys the same in Marathi, but then in his typical self-deprecating humour, said that he didn’t want to ‘scare’ her with his Marathi. 

Big B shares, “Lata ji, one lengthy aalap of yours brings to life these statues, books and pictures. We are privileged that we were born in the era of Lata ji.” 

Amitabh Bachchan also recites a verse of Sant Dnyaneshwar to convey his emotions. 

“Whenever I listen to any song, bhajan or ghazal of Lataji’s, my mind comes out of a closed room and goes with Lata ji’s voice and when it returns, it is still in the same melody and flow, as if it needs no other empathy. Such debts can be repaid, it can only be accepted. I can thank you, but this can't be fulfilled with merely words. It is impossible to reciprocate some credits and blessings," the 'Deewaar' star says. 

“Lata ji you have made art immortal by stitching it with your sweet voice. Without your voice, music is not complete,” Big B is heard saying in the video.        

Bachchan captioned the video, “On Lata ji’s 90th birthday, my sentiments and my feelings .. with deep regard and respect।। लता मंगेशकर जी की ९० वी वर्ष गाँठ पर, मेरे कुछ शब्द ; कुछ भावनाएँ , आदर सहित.”

Sachin also shot a video, where he says, "I would like to wish you on your 90th birthday. Honestly speaking, I do not remember the first time I listened to one of your songs. I do not think there has been a day when I did not listen to your song. You have always showered your blessings on me. I still remember the time when you gave me handwritten lyrics of 'Tu Jahan jahan chalega'. I will always remember that gift of yours."

Dharmendra, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and many other stars also conveyed their greetings on the occasion.
