Madhubala biopic: Imtiaz Ali to bring the life of the legendary actor to the screen?
Many reports are making rounds on the table that Imtiaz Ali will soon commence a biopic on Mughal-E-Azam actor Madhubala

The year 2020 will deliver many biopics in different genres. Ranveer Singh's film '83 will be a biopic on the legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev. Apart from this, Chhapaak, Gunjan Saxena, and many other such movies will release in 2020. Joining the list, director Imtiaz Ali is also planning to try his hand in making of a biopic.
Imtiaz Ali to direct Madhubala biopic?
A source close to the industry shared the details with a leading news portal. If these reports are something to go by, the director is planning to chronicle the story of Madhubala aka Begum Mumtaz Jehan Dehlavi's life journey, from playing a child artist in the film Basant to getting a break opposite Raj Kapoor in Neel Kamal. He has reportedly bought the rights to make a biopic from a company called Madhubala Ventures Pvt. Ltd. The Jab Harry Met Sejal director has also acquired a Life Story Rights Assignment Agreement from her family. The reports also state that it's not confirmed yet that if it will be a full-length feature film or a web series. The source also mentioned that the cast of the film is also not yet decided.
The Jhumaroo actor, who died at the age of 36, won a Filmfare Award in 1961 for her performance in Prithviraj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar starrer Mughal-E-Azam. Apart from this romance-drama, she gave excellent performance in films like Mahal, Mr and Mrs '55, and Tarana, among others. The Anarkali actor was reportedly suffering from heart disease. She was considered as the most beautiful and elegant actor in the history of Hindi Cinema.
The official announcements are yet to be made about the project and the cast of the film. It will be interesting to know which leading actor will get the opportunity to play Madhubala's character on screen. But Madhubala's sister, Madhur Brij Bhushan had said during an event in Delhi that she personally wanted to see Kareena Kapoor Khan portraying Madhubala's role.
Ali's Upcoming Projects
On the work front, the Rockstar director is preparing for his upcoming Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan starrer Aaj Kal. The rom-com is a sequel of his 2009 directorial Love Aaj Kal. The director's last release Laila Majnu in 2018 was well-received by the audience.
