Mhubala birthday falls on February 14. She was born in New Delhi in a Muslim family. She was fifth child among eleven children of a conservative Pathan couple.
Mhubala's family went through many hardships after her far lost his job. family also suffered when four of Mhubala's sisters and two brors died. In search of a better life, her far relocated to Mumbai. Young Mumtaz entered film industry at of nine.

Mhubala got her first breakthrough role as a leing ly in Neel Kamal opposite Raj Kapoor in 1947. Mhubala's was just fourteen when she landed this role. Even though film didn't receive a commercial success but she got many praises for her role. She landed ar role in 1949 film Mahal for which she received immense praise and popularity. Mhubala's was just sixteen when she started ruling hearts of everyone in country.

Due to her immense beauty and brilliant acting, Mhubala was one of busiest actors in film industry. She once re script of Bimal Roy's Biraj Bahu (1954) and was desperate to grab role of main le but legendary filmmaker thought that she would demand a high fee and hence went ahe with a different actor. Later on, when Mhubala got to kw about Bimal Roy's apprehension, she stated that she would have done film for a fee of one rupee.
