Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan were spotted at a polling booth in Mumbai, voting for Maharashtra Assembly elections on Monday. As many as 3,237 candidates, including 235 women, are contesting in 288 Assembly seats of state. Polling was underway since 7 am and will end at 6 pm.

In Maharashtra, where 'Mahayuti' alliance of BJP, Shiv Sena and smaller parties is against 'Maha-agadhi' led by Congress and NCP. In saffron alliance, BJP will be contesting on 150 seats, and Shiv Sena will fight on 124 seats in Maharashtra. Alliance partners of BJP have fielded 14 candidates on party's lotus symbol. Meanwhile, Congress is contesting polls in alliance with NCP. Both parties are contesting on 125 seats each in 288-member Assembly and its allies on remaining 38 seats.

opposition tried to corner BJP governments at Centre and in states on handling of ecomy with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi blaming ruling party for ecomic slowdown and unemployment and highlighting issues like "failure" of demonetisation and GST rollout. While PM Modi addressed nine rallies across state, Rahul Gandhi spoke at six public meetings. campaign also saw an undertone of jostling for supremacy between BJP and Sena, which had fought last assembly elections separately, winning 122 and 63 seats respectively. Congress had bagged 42 and NCP 41 seats. In April-May Lok Sabha elections, BJP-Sena alliance won 41 of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, while Congress won one and NCP four seats.
