Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi brought himself into the center of a controversy after sharing a distasteful meme on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. After being slammed for the same by several industry mates and woman empowerment organizations, now, reportedly Mumbai Mahila Congress has urged to lodge an FIR against the actor under Section 509 of the IPC Act for his 'obnoxious statement on women in the meme' which is claimed to have insulted the modesty of women.

Vivek Oberoi on Tuesday apologized for sharing a meme on actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's personal life and deleted the controversial tweet after being severely criticized on social media. Oberoi, who reportedly dated the former Miss World in the early 2000s, on Monday posted a meme on Twitter with three panels, one featuring him, another with Salman Khan and a third with Aishwarya's husband Abhishek and daughter Aaradhya, comparing it to opinion polls, exit polls, and election results respectively. Not just the Twitterati, even several Bollywood actors including Anupam Kher, Jwala Gutta, Sonam Kapoor have shamed the actor for the same.

Meanwhile, reacting to the heavy criticism on social media, the 'PM Narendra Modi' actor said that he had found it just funny and fail to understand "why people are making a big deal about this."

However, apologizing for the same, the actor took to Twitter and said, "Sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others. I have spent the last 10 years empowering more than 2000 underprivileged girls, I can't even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever. Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action. Apologies🙏🏻 tweet deleted."
