Moothon (The Elder One) opens at Jio MAMI
October 18, the second day of MAMI, began its inauguration with the screening of Geethu Mohandas' second directorial feature, Moothon (The Elder One). Also written by Geethu, the film chronicles the story of a 10-year-old boy living on an island, who then sets off on a journey in pursuit of Akbar, (essayed by Nivin Pauly), his long lost elder brother. It is a tale of two siblings, who each leave home for their reasons and then expands the scope of Mohandas' generous sense of diversity for the Indian experience. While interacting with the media at MAMI, Nivin Pauly shared that when he first read the script of Moothon, he felt it was quite intense and strong. He further shared that he went to meet Geethu on the next day after reading it, and told her he would love to do a film like this.
On the work front, Geethu Mohandas has reportedly earned two National Awards for her debut directorial, Liar's Dice that was released in 2013. The film starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Geetanjali Thapa in lead roles. Recently, she shared her excitement for her second project, Moothon on her social media handle. The film hit the big screen on October 18, the very same day it was screened at MAMI and has reportedly garnered a positive review from the fans.
