Manish Wadhwa talks about playing villain in Sunny Deol's Gadar 2: 'Woh pagal hai...'

Manish Wadhwa first came into the limelight by playing the role of Chanakya in TV show Chandragupt Maurya, eventually bagging prominent parts in big Hindi films. The actor will now be seen in an important role in Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2. The film also stars Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles.

Manish Wadhwa reveals Sunny Deol guided him in action scenes

Manish Wadhwa, who plays a cold-hearted Pakistani army general in the upcoming Gadar 2, thanked the entire team for helping him prepare for his role. Wadhwa in an interview to Bollywood Premi said, “The preparation for me came in form of guidance from everyone around. Sunny Deol guided me in the action scenes, so did director Anil Sharma.” Wadhwa also acknowledged the role of Gadar 2’s writer, adding, “Shaktimaan Ji wrote such a well-rounded part that it became easy for me.”

Talking about his role in Gadar 2, Wadha describes the character as a cruel man, adding, “Wo pagal hai (He is mad).” However, Wadhwa also refused to divulge more about his character or the film. He added, “There are lot of other things attached  you will see when you watch the film. It’s a rollercoaster ride.”

Figuratively, Wadhwa is replacing Amrish Puri who played the iconic evil-guy part of Ishrat Ali in Gadar 22 years ago. When compared to legends like Pran, Gulshan Grover and Amrish Puri, Madhwa expressed his deep reverence for these yesteryears’ greats. He noted how “Gulshan Grover and Amrish ji did so many parts with different looks and get-ups, If I can even come close to them in greatness, that’ll be a lot.”

Wadhwa also spoke about having no fear of being typecast, and that his sole focus lies on playing the given part with honesty. He said, "I have got different characters in all genres - be it historical, mythological, or social dramas. So I have never worried about being typecast." Wadhwa also recalled how things changed for him forever when he got the opportunity to play Chanakya in the TV show Chandragupt Maurya. He said, “That’s what I first shaved my head for. It’s been 12 years since, and I am still this way as you can see.”

Manish Wadhwa’s first major film appearance was in the 2018-film Padmaavat. He was last seen in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, which released earlier this year. Gadar 2 is slated to release on August 11, where it clashes with the Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG2.
