Sidharth Malhotra plays the protagonist in this action-romance. In an interview with an entertainment media, when asked about the downfall of Sidharth’s career, Milap was quick to defend him by drawing comparisons between Sid’s career with Shahid Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput’s career graphs. Milap said that he has the utmost faith in Sidharth because Shahid too had a series of movies that did not work out for him but then there also was Kabir Singh which broke records while even with Sushant, his Chhichhore did exceptionally well for him after quite some time. He further added that the audiences loved Sidharth in Ek Villian and the makers are very affirmative that they will love him in Marjaavaan too.

Zaveri also revealed the inspiration behind Sidharth’s avatar in the film. He said that Sid’s look in the film is inspired and is on similar lines to that of Amitabh Bachchan in Deewar, Sunny Deol in Jeet and Jackie Shroff in Hero. The Satyameva Jayate director elaborated that Raghu (Sidharth’s character in Marjaavaan) depicts ruggedness, who walks with match-sticks in his mouth spouting smart one-liners. He also drew comparisons with Amitabh Bachchan’s character's traits in Deewar with Sidharth’s character's traits in Marjaavaan. He said that Raghu is his version of Vijay in Deewar and is like a homage to Amitabh's character. While Vijay was seen playing around with a rope in the film, Raghu will be seen playing around with match-sticks in the film indicating his volatility.
