'Chhapaak' director Meghna Gulzar opens up about casting real acid attack survivors

Director of Deepika Padukone's 'Chhapaak' Meghna Gulzar opened up about why she cast four real acid attack survivors and her experience of working with them.

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar is all set to amaze audience with her next titled, Chhapaak. Starring Deepika Padukone in lead role, story of film is inspired by experience of real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. trailer of social-drama has highlighted a few real acid attack survivors working as supporting cast. In a recent media interaction, director revealed why she cast m in film.

Reportedly, Meghna said that decision to cast real acid attack survivors was fairly organic because characters of Malti and Amol, who run an NGO, work for welfare of or survivors. She added that she approached survivors from Alok Dixit's NGO. She also expressed her gratitude to survivors for agreeing to work in film. While praising, m she said that ir performance was beyond expectation and y worked wholeheartedly on sets of Chhapaak. She also stated that working with Ritu, Bala, Jeetu and Kunti (four acid attack survivors from Sheroes and Chhanv Foundation) was a precious experience for her.

Raazi director also clarified reason for t casting Laxmi as Malti on screen. She said that idea of involving Laxmi in film never incurred. She also added that neir makers r Laxmi would want to lose out on substance and impact of film.

Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massy starrer Chhappak is slated to release on January 10, 2020. Deepika, last seen in Padmaavat, will appear on silver screen after almost a year. film will clash at box-office with Ajay Devgn's upcoming period-drama Tanhaji: Unsung Warrior.
