Bigg Boss season 11 winner Shilpa Shinde has come out in support of the singer Mika Singh, who recently performed at the wedding function of a close relative of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharaff. In an interview with Republic TV, Shilpa says, "I'm sure Mika Singh was forced to apologize by the federation as I don't find anything wrong in what Mika did." She further said, "I think rather than criticizing him, the federation should be proud and thankful to Mika Singh, as Mika in this situation, went to Pakistan, performed and completed his commitment. Even though, one should proudly say that Pakistan has respected and welcomed India's artists which is a big thing".

Shilpa added by saying, "Artists are here used as a football. People still listen to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, so is he going to be banned in India? I know the answer is 'no', then why are we banned to perform where we are willing to perform? There shouldn't be any limit for artists. And if the federation is talking about justice, then I must clear this thing that these (federation) people are doing injustice to their own artists. Federation is actually torturing us. Pakistan never asked their artists to condemn India, they haven't banned any of their artists. Then why are we being tortured?"

She ended saying, "Yes, if my government grants me a visa and if that (Pakistan) government welcomes me I will definitely go to Pakistan or any other country to perform and no one can stop me. I am ready to perform in Pakistan."

Speaking to Republic TV, AICWA President Suresh Gupta says, "What Shilpa Shinde did is nothing but just a publicity stunt. She's not getting any work in the industry, so she's giving such stupid statements, which stand nowhere. We respect artists and they have the freedom of speech and freedom to express but an artist is also a responsible citizen. So they should also respect the sentiments of India. One can perform anywhere in India, wherever they want to. But, yes an artist saying that we will perform in Pakistan, will not be tolerated."

The escalating tensions between Pakistan and India have led Pakistan ban Bollywood films in their country. Mika Singh, who performed at Pakistan, was greeted with heavy criticism when he returned to India. All India Cine Worker Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) banned the singer, after which Mika Singh tendered an apology.
