'Motichoor Chaknachoor': Director Debamitra Biswal accused of fraud, makers to take action
Days before release, 'Motichoor Chaknachoor' landed in a row after director Debamitra Biswal was accused of fraud for trying to sell the rights 'fraudulently.'

Two days before the release, Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Athiya Shetty-starrer Motichoor Chaknachoor has landed in a controversy. As per reports, director Debamitra Biswal has been accused of ‘fraudulently’ selling the rights of the comedy to a distributor for Rs 32 lakh. The producers of the movie are now probing the matter and planning to move courts against the director in this regard.

As per a report on a news agency, a petitioner approached a court of sub-judge in Saran (Chapra), Bihar stating that Debamitra Biswal tried to sell the rights of the movie to a Bihar-based distributor without the knowledge of the producers. The petitioner also claimed that the conversation over the dealings happened in the presence of lead actor Athiya Shetty. Moreover, the petition stated that the director has ‘admitted’ she conducted the ‘fraudulent’ transaction.

The makers have also confirmed the development. The legal counsel of one of the producers, Woodpecker Movies, Ramesh Jain termed the incident as a matter of ‘clear fraud’ and ‘collusion’. He added that they are now investigating the issue and will approach the court for ‘relief.’ Legal proceedings are all set to be initiated, he revealed.

Debamitra Biswal is making her directorial debut with Motichoor Chaknachoor. The movie is all set to release on November 15. It is not yet clear if this controversy will have an impact on the release date.

Motichoor Chaknachoor is Athiya Shetty’s third film and her first-time pairing with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The trailer revolves around Nawazuddin and Athiya’s characters, the former who is desperate for marriage at 36 and the latter who only wants to marry an NRI. After his character claims to have a job in Dubai, the duo ties the knot. She decides against consummating the marriage till they go to Dubai, while hilarious situations take place as he tries to hide that he had lost his job. The quirky trailer had made headlines at that time. The movie also features a special dance number starring Nawazuddin and Sunny Leone. Motichoor Chaknachoor was shot completely in Bhopal. The comedy, will be clashing with Marjaavaan, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles.
