Mumbai Police inquest under CBI lens post SC's Sushant order; dummy test & searches likely

Soon after SC allowed CBI to investigate the case into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, it has got in touch with its Mumbai unit to finalise the logistics

Soon after Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed CBI to investigate case into death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, investigating ncy has got in touch with its Mumbai unit to finalise logistics, sources said. top CBI sources told Republic Media Network that ncy will carry out fresh panchnamas once y reach Mumbai. 

CBI to conduct a dummy test: Sources

Sources informed that CBI will carry out searches and a dummy test, too will be carried out at crime scene. y added that informal communication between Mumbai Police and Mumbai unit of CBI took place last week. Sources also added that Mumbai unit of CBI is trying to arrange for an alternative location for operations since 25 COVID cases have been reported in Mumbai office.

According to Supreme Court verdict, everything w has to be transferred to CBI, including Mumbai police inquest that was being conducted. In its order, Supreme Court pointed out that Mumbai Police’s obstruction to Bihar police team at Mumbai could have been avoided "since it gave rise to suspicion" on bonafide of ir inquiry. It added that transfer of investigation to CBI cant be a routine occurrence but should be in exceptional circumstances.

CBI to leave for Mumbai soon

Earlier in day, sources informed Republic TV that CBI SIT team will leave for Mumbai after order comes in. Sources revealed that CBI team is waiting for detailed order from apex court. However, sources informed that ir date of leaving has t been fixed as of w.

CBI has registered an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty and ors in connection with actor's death after Centre accepted Bihar Government's recommendation to transfer probe in matter from Patna. An FIR was registered in Patna on a complaint filed by KK Singh, Rajput's far, under sections related to abetment to suicide. Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.
