Netflix Says Squid Game Plagiarism Accusations Have 'No Merit', Streamer Hits Back At Luck Director

The director of Luck Soham Shah has alleged that Netflix has plagiarised his movie featuring Imran Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Shruti Hassan.

popular South Korean series Squid Games has landed in legal trouble after writer of show and OTT platform have been sued by Indian filmmaker Soham Shah over copyright infringement. According to a report in TMZ, filmmaker has claimed that Netflix’s popular series is a copy of his 2009 film Luck. As per lawsuit, Squid Game franchise is reportedly straight from storyline from movie Luck.

According to documents of lawsuit obtained by American outlet TMZ, Squid Gamez which became most-watched series on Netflix when it premiered in 2021 is a "rip-off" of movie starring Imran Khan, Shruti Haasan, and Sanjay Dutt, as per director. streaming platform has now issued a counter claim in matter. y have denied all allegations of plagiarism.

"This claim has no merit. Squid Game was created by and written by Hwang Dong Hyuk and we intend to defend this matter vigorously," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. In documents, Shah also claimed that he wrote story of film around 2006 and film released in July 2009. In several interviews, Hwang has said he first came up with idea for Netflix series in 2008. Shah's allegations come months ahe of season two premiere of Squid Game, fronted by Korean star Lee Jung-jae, on December 26.
