The 35th MTV Video Music Awards was held at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York on Monday, August 20. Cuban teen sensation Camila Cabello grabbed the limelight by bagging two awards of the event, 'Artist of the year' and 'Video of the year', for her song 'Havana'. The Trinidadian-American rapper, Nicki Minaj, and American singer Ariana Grande set the stage on fire with their performances. However, Netizens have been offended with American singer Madonna's recent act at the show. Madonna paid tribute to late American singer Aretha Franklin on the show by giving a long speech. Her speech included her entire journey to stardom and the struggles she had to face while making her career and had very little mentioned about the late singer that she was paying a tribute to.

Aretha Franklin was one of the most popular American singers of the 1960's who has lent her voice to several blockbuster songs of that time. She began her singing career at an early age with singing holy gospels in various churches. She got a career break with a famous record company Columbia Records, and her first song was titled 'Today I Sing the Blues'. Her first solo album was titled 'Aretha'. Her works include 'Soul Sister', 'Sweet Passion', 'Get It Right', 'Aretha's Gold', to name a few. She was one of the first female pop stars of Hollywood whose songs topped the Billboards charts. Aretha Franklin passed away on Thursday, August 16, at the age of 76. Aretha Franklin was known as 'The Queen of Soul'.
