Unknown to many, casting of Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra wasn't original plan. Zoya Akhtar initially envisioned real-life siblings Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan for roles of Kabir and Ayesha Mehra. Reportedly, Ranbir h to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts, prompting Kareena to also step away, as her primary motivation was to play sister of her cousin.

This trivia was recently confirmed by Anil Kapoor who shared in a promotional video for Animal's OTT release on Netflix India that when he accepted role in Dil Dhakne Do, Ranbir Kapoor was initially part of project. Anil portrayed Ranbir's far in 2023 crime drama Animal.

Kareena in an earlier interview h revealed, "It’s my loss because I love Zoya, but couldn’t be part of her film. I am dying to work with her. Inshallah, this isn’t last film she is going to make, and it’s not last film that I’m not able to do."
