Kangana Ranaut admitted that she had a ‘horrible’ time in the last two years, courtesy the cases and ‘propaganda’ against her, but asserted that none of it were successful. In a recent interview with a daily, the actress opened up on hopes she has from 2019 with ‘exciting’ films after a ‘suffocating’ time both personally and professionally.
When asked on her minimal presence in cinema last year, Kangana replied that there were only cases on her, six to seven of them, people were ‘trying to put her behind bars’, and quipped that her life is such that it is worth making a movie on.
However, this year the actress has films like ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’, ‘Mental Hai Kya’ and ‘Panga’, movies she called ‘exciting’ subjects. The ‘Gangster’ star called 2018 ‘horrible’ due to the cases against her, movies being unsuccessful ('Simran' and 'Katti Batti' in 2017) and ‘things going downhill’ to the point it couldn’t go up.
But the 31-year-old feels that life is like a wave and has a way to surprise you; she now hopes things start looking up again.
On being asked if she felt like a ‘lone wolf’ in the industry, Kangana stated that she didn’t feel lonely though people might not be with her physically. She felt she gets support from many, not necessarily from the industry but from various quarters, as she has stood up for many things and never had ‘egg on her face’ publicly. The actress though wondered about why those people ‘resonated’ and ‘identified’ with her.
On the nepotism controversy, the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ star shared that Karan Johar had gone on record to tender an apology, and there were ‘never-ending open letters’ when she ‘switched off’ completely for ‘Manikarnika’. Kangana said that after she was sent a notice for ‘uneasy accusations’, there was an ‘outrage’ and though she was not a ‘relevantly big star’ people supported her when she was ‘having a conflict with a co-actor.’
However, the ‘Fashion’ star revealed there were times when she felt ‘cornered’ particularly after ‘Simran’ flopped as she felt script writer Apurva Asrani and filmmakers Ketan Mehta, Karan Johar and Rakesh Roshan and some others ‘singled her out for criticism.’
She claimed the film industry was having ‘intense meetings’ to ‘put her into her place’. Kangana revealed that was the only time she felt ‘suffocated’ and even today feels so when she thinks about it.
The ‘Simran’ star shared about Ketan Mehta approaching the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) against her, Aditya Pancholi filing a case and Rakesh Roshan repeatedly saying he would ‘reveal’ something. However, she expressed that ‘all of this didn’t go anywhere’ as the EOW case was withdrawn and ‘nothing came out of the propaganda’. The actress revealed that she couldn’t take the multiple incidents simultaneously and that she was a ‘lone target.’
For the uninitiated, the last two years for Kangana have been dominated with numerous controversies. An act on an awards show by Saif Ali Khan, Varun Dhawan, Karan Johar about ‘Nepotism Rocks’ was termed as a jibe at Kangana Ranaut.
The actress’ comments during ‘Simran’ promotions on her rumoured exes Hrithik Roshan and Aditya Pancholi, accusing the ‘Krrish 3’ star of ‘harassing’ her during their alleged relationship, and the latter of assault had renewed their respective controversies. Aditya had filed a case against Kangana while both the Roshans, Hrithik and Rakesh, had slammed the accusations made by her.

Ketan Mehta had taken action against her and the makers of ‘Manikarnika’ for ‘hijacking’ his project about the Rani of Jhansi. There was a row over ‘Simran’ as well when writer Apurva Asrani was furious about the actress being given writing credits.
