August 11 marked the release of both Gadar 2 and OMG 2. Despite being very different films in terms of subject matter, they're both banking on the nostalgia created by the first parts in the franchise. While Gadar 2 is about a father-son bond, OMG 2 is based around the oft-important topic of sexual awareness among teenagers and young adults. Despite the problems created for the film by the Indian censor board, here's how it's performing at the domestic box office.

3 things you need to know:

  • It stars Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles.
  • It was made on a reported budget of Rs 50 crore.

OMG 2 heading for Rs 50 crore?

The Akshay Kumar starrer has managed to score a hefty sum despite stiff competition from Gadar 2. As per official numbers, OMG 2 has reportedly earned Rs 43. 11 crore so far. The first weekend for OMG 2 has been highly eventful. While it opened with an underwhelming Rs 10.26 crore at the box office, it quickly gained its stride on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the film minted Rs 15.30 crore and reached a high point on Sunday with Rs 17.55 crore, as per the numbers. While the same suggests that the film now totals Rs 43.11 crore, OMG 2 is well on its way to collecting Rs 50 crore despite fierce box office competition.

OMG 2 is expected to perform better

Trade analyst Sumit Kadel said on X (formerly known as Twitter) that OMG 2 is expected to bring in a business of Rs 18 crore in India on Sunday. He deemed it "unprecedented biz" since the satirical comedy drama had limited screens and also a tough clash against Gadar 2. Reports state that a strong word of mouth worked in favour of the critically acclaimed movie and the Akshay Kumar starrer is expected to perform better in the coming days based on that.
