Arun Govil is best known for his portrayal of Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana. The actor, who plays the role of a school principal in OMG 2, has now opened up about his perspective on the mixed reception of Om Raut's epic Adipurush, starring Prabhas. Despite high anticipation, the film failed to meet expectations due to colloquial dialogues and character depiction.

3 things you need to know

  • Adipurush was released in theatres on June 16.
  • It had a record-breaking opening at the box office but collection dwindled after a controversy erupted.
  • Arun's OMG 2 has Akshay Kumar playing the character of Lord Shiva's messenger.

Arun Govil says filmmakers should avoid hurting people's sentiments

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Arun Govil shared his thoughts about films on religious themes. He said that filmmakers should be careful while making movies like Adipurush. He said that while making religious films is a valid endeavour, sensitivity towards people's faith and devotion is paramount. The actor also shared that filmmakers should avoid hurting sentiments when dealing with sensitive religious themes.

"Religious filmein banani hai banao, kyu nahi? lekin aapko iss baat ka zaroor dhyan rakhna chahiye ki sensitive issue hota hai toh logo ki aastha, shraddha, hai bhagwaan ke prati woh hurt na ho. They must take care of that (Make religious films, why not? But you should definitely keep in mind that if it’s a sensitive issue, people’s faith and devotion towards God should not be hurt. They must take care of that)," he said.

Adipurush's free fall at box office

Adipurush fell flat after a good start at the box office. It faced criticism for its dialogues, particularly those involving Lord Hanuman, which were deemed by some as "disrespectful." This sparked outrage and protests across India. As a response to criticism, the creators revised the dialogues and released updated versions of the film within a week of its release.
