Ashutosh Gowariker has directed yet another historical films after directing hits like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar. The film is called Panipat: The Great Betrayal. It will revolve around the life of Sadashivrao Bhau, the commander-in-chief during the third battle of Panipat. The film features Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon along with Sanjay Dutt. Over the years, we have seen multiple historical movies making records at the box office. Here are a few that you must watch if you haven't yet.

1) The Legend Of Bhagat Singh (2002)
The film was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. It features Ajay Devgn in the lead role portraying the role of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The film revolves around Bhagat Singh's childhood and gradually shows his journey in a British dominating India. The film is a character study of Bhagat Singh right from his childhood to his ultimate hanging at the age of 23. The film also earned Rajkumar Santoshi a Filmfare award for Best Film in critics' choice.

2) Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005)
As the name suggests, the film chronicles Mangal Pandey's life. Mangal Pandey was the rebellious Indian soldier who sparked the first war of Indian Independence back in 1857. The film marked the comeback of Aamir Khan after he went for a break from acting in 2001. Mangal Pandey: The Rising was premiered at the auspicious Cannes Film Festival back in 2005. The film was directed by Ketan Mehta and features Rani Mukerji and Toby Stephens in supporting roles.

3) Bajirao Mastani (2015)
Bajirao Mastani was reportedly Sanjay Leela Bhansali's dream project. The film was conceptualised in the early 1990s but wasn't worked on concretely by Bhansali until 2014. The film revolves around the historical romance between Maratha Peshwa Bajirao and his second wife Mastani. The film features Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Bajirao Mastani was a huge success at the box office.
