Just after two days of its release, film, Panipat has landed in controversy and period drama seems to have t gone down well with Jats of Rajasthan. locals have been burning effigy of Ashutosh in protest. locals are protesting against alleged wrong portrayal of Maharaja Surajmal. In movie, great Maratha warrior Sashiv Rao Bhau (essayed by Arjun Kapoor) asks Maharaja Surajmal for help against inving Afghans, but Maharaja Surajmal wanted something in return. When his demands were t met he refused to accompany Sashiv in his battle against Afghans.

Ashutosh Gowariker returned to silver screen after a gap of three years with Panipat. movie revolves around Third Battle of Panipat which took place on January 14, 1761, between Marathas and Afghan king, Ahm Shah Abdali. Arjun Kapoor was seen in role of Sashiv Rao Bhau, commander-in-chief of Maratha army. Sanjay Dutt played role of Ahm Shah Abdali in Panipat while Kriti San featured as Parvati Bai, second wife of Sashiv Rao Bhau.

Panipat is directed by rewned director Ashutosh Gowariker, who previously helmed period dramas like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar. It features Arjun Kapoor, Kriti San, Sanjay Dutt, and Mohnish Bahl in pivotal roles. Based on third battle of Panipat, historical drama released on December 6, 2019.
