Days after MNS chief Raj Thackeray showered praises on Ashutosh Gowariker's magnum opus Panipat and endorsed it through a social media post, BJP leer Vasundhara Raje condemned movie for portraying Maharaja Surajmal in wrong light. On Sunday, former chief minister of Rajasthan took to Twitter and wrote: "Portrayal of a ble, sincere and kind-hearted king like Maharaja Surajmal in wrong light by filmmaker of Panipat is deplorable."
Interestingly, just hours ahe of its release on Friday MNS chief h recommended movie as a must-watch while highlighting cour of Marathas in fight to protect ir sovereignty. He h said that film deserved to be viewed by everyone in country. He said that one needs to go revisit history of battle of Panipat to appreciate “perspective behind this defeat".

In movie, great Maratha warrior Sashiv Rao Bhau (essayed by Arjun Kapoor) asks Maharaja Surajmal for help against inving Afghans, but Maharaja Surajmal wanted something in return. When his demands were t met he refused to accompany Sashiv in his battle against Afghans.

Raje's statement comes amidst protests in parts of Rajasthan against Sanjay Dutt, Kriti San and Arjun Kapoor starrer period drama. movie landed in controversy just two days after its release. period drama seems to have t gone down well with Jats of Rajasthan who alleged wrong portrayal of Maharaja Surajmal. locals have been burning effigy of director Ashutosh Gowariker in protest.
Several or locals are protesting fact that in film all actors are speaking in Rajasthani & Hariyanvi whereas y actually speak Braj langu.

dialogue controversy
This is t first controversy faced by movie. Prior to this, a dialogue by Kriti San who is essaying role Parvatibai got makers in trouble. In trailer, Kriti's character Parvatibai says to her husband Sashivrao Bhau before going for war, “Maine suna hai Peshwa jab akele muhim par jaate hain to ek Mastani ke saath laut te hain.” dialogue was t very well received by many and reportedly, a descendant of Peshwa Bajirao sent a tice to makers.

Ashutosh Gowariker returned to silver screen after a gap of three years with Panipat. movie revolves around Third Battle of Panipat which took place on January 14, 1761, between Marathas and Afghan king, Ahm Shah Abdali. Arjun Kapoor was seen in role of Sashiv Rao Bhau, commander-in-chief of Maratha army. Sanjay Dutt played role of Ahm Shah Abdali in Panipat while Kriti San featured as Parvati Bai, second wife of Sashiv Rao Bhau.
