Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter handle to hail David Dhawan's upcoming film 'Coolie No.1' that recently became the first Bollywood film to go plastic-free. PM Modi in his tweet wrote that it was a 'superb gesture' by the entire team. Their decision came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech, urged people to shun single-use plastic and encouraged usage of jute and cloth bags to protect the environment.

Varun Dhawan on September 1 announced on his Twitter handle that his film 'Coolie No. 1' is going plastic-free. He shared a picture from the sets and wrote: "The sets of #CoolieNo1 will now only use steel bottles." Producer of the movie Deepshikha D Deshmukh also took to Twitter to share the team's initiative. "Going #Plasticfree on #CoolieNo1 One sip at a time - hope we inspire many #BeatPlasticPollution #StayHydrated Thank you to the Coolie-est team for making this happen," she tweeted. Varun thanked the producer for the decision and urged his colleagues to do the same.

Varun Dhawan-Sara Ali Khan starrer "Coolie No 1" is set to hit the theatres on May 1, 2020. Varun took to Twitter to make the announcement Wednesday. "Coolie No 1" is an adaptation of the original of the same name, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead. It was directed by Varun's father, filmmaker David Dhawan. David is returning to direct the new movie, which is produced by Vashu Bhagnani who also backed the 1995 hit comedy. Varun's last release was "Kalank", whereas Sara was last seen in 2018's "Simmba".
