Amid nationwide outr triggered after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and killed in Hathras district of Uttar Presh, actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt took to her Twitter handle to assert that term 'rape' should t be 'loosely used' in 'context to acts that are t related to sexual assault'.

Asserting that frivolous use of word 'rape must stop', Bhatt highlighted that 'it deflects from horror of rape' itself.

What is Hathras rape case?

victim was reported to be allegedly raped in Hathras on September 14 in a field, leaving her in a critical condition - all four accused have been arrested. When her condition worsened, she was referred to AIIMS but was mitted to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Monday with spinal cord injuries, paralysis and cuts in her tongue. She died around 3 am on Tuesday, but her autopsy report has mention of rape - which has led to police claiming that victim was 't raped' highlighting that 'neck injury and trauma' were mentioned as cause of death and that traces of sperm were found in her private parts.

case took an ugly turn when UP police cremated victim's body at 2:30 AM on Wednesday, allegedly without family's consent, which has been refuted by police. UP govt has suspended five police officers including district's Police Superintendent (SP) Vikrant Vir for 'midnight funeral', after 3-member SIT's recommendation. w, case been transferred to CBI on CM ityanath's recommendation and an FIR has been filed under various sections of IPC alleging criminal conspiracy to incite violence via incident.
