Priyanka Chopra is one of the most popular Indian actors worldwide. She not only has a strong presence in Bollywood and India but has also worked to become an international star with several movies in Hollywood. In addition to her strong acting resume and her love for fashion, Priyanka has also worked tirelessly outside the world of glitz and glamour. She is known to be an avid philanthropist and also holds an honourable position as an ambassador for the United Nations.

Her work as a philanthropist

Priyanka Chopra is known to have always tried to use her position of influence to make a difference in the world. She is known for spreading awareness on social causes that she believes in and she also tries to help those less fortunate than herself. She started the Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education which focuses its efforts on keeping underprivileged children healthy and educated. She reportedly donates 10% of all her earnings to her foundation regularly.

She is also known to have advocated for environmental reforms and non-profit organizations that help in the endeavour of protecting nature and cleaning the environment. She is an ambassador for Greenathon, which is a nationwide campaign to spread awareness about environmental degradation. Other than her financially supporting non-profit NGO’s, she is also occasionally vocal on social media about crucial causes that she wants her fans to be aware of. In 2013, she performed a voice-over narration for the documentary Girls Rising, which focused on the struggles of young girls in developing countries as they tried to complete their education.

An ambassador for UNICEF

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) appointed Priyanka Chopra as their goodwill ambassador in 2010. Since then she has worked in several projects in association with UNICEF to promote the welfare of children and adolescents worldwide. Her work with the UNICEF includes the United Nation’s Girls Up programme that helps girls in developing countries to obtain a good education. She has also been a vocal advocate against violence against children and has also advocated for free education for all children throughout India through her Awaaz Do campaign. She has also had an association with the Deepshikha campaign that aims to help young women in Maharashtra by teaching them entrepreneurship and leadership skills. Recently this year, Priyanka Chopra took a trip to Ethiopia where she visited several refugee camps to offer aid and support.

These are just some of the instances where actor Priyanka Chopra has used her station for philanthropic work. Her role as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF is as much a part of her as the glamour of the film industry is. On the work front as an actor, Priyanka will next be starring in the upcoming film The Sky is Pink alongside Farhan Akhtar. This will be her first Bollywood movie after a three-year hiatus.
