Ramayana: The Nitesh Tiwari's magnum opus is touted as one of the biggest Bollywood films ever. The movie is headlined by Ranbir Kapoor , who will reportedly play the role of Lord Ram. The makers announced the release date of the live-action movie with the first poster on November 5. Here is a roundup of all that is known about the film so far.
Ramayana full cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and others
The movie is based on the Hindu epic of Ramayan. Ranbir Kapoor is reported to play the role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi will be seen as Goddess Sita while Kannada actor Yash essays the role of Raavana. The supporting cast too boasts big names like Sunny Deol, Ravi Dube, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Baahubali fame Ramya Krishnan and Sheeba Chaddha among many others.

As per reports, Ravi Dubey will essay the role of Lord Ram's brother Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta will be Kekayi and OG Lord Ram Arjun Govil as Raja Dashrath. There is no clarity on the role of other cast members like Rakul Preet Singh and Sheeba Chadha. As per industry chatter, superstar Amitabh Bachchan might also feature in the movie for the bride role of majestic Jatayu.
Confirming his role as Ravan, the KGF Yash told The Hollywood Reporter, "In Ramayana, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of a particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way." For the unversed, apart from starring in the film, the actor has also turned co-producer.

What is the budget of Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana?
Ramayana is not just mounted on a big and ambitious cast. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer is also said to be one of the most expensive movies in Indian cinema. As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the film is made on a budget of ₹835 crore.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, "Ramayana is not just a film but an emotion and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a global spectacle. The USD 100 Million ( ₹835 crore) budget is just for Ramayana: Part One. He (Namit Malhotra) plans to expand this further as the franchise grows. The idea is to take the audience on a visual treat with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram." The majority of the budget will be used for the CGI and post-production of the movie. The film will reportedly be in post-production for 600 days.

Ramayana Part 1 and Ramayana Part 2 release date out
The makers of Ramayana announced the film's release date with the first poster today, November 6. The film will be released in two parts on the festival of Diwali in 2026 and 2027, the makers said on Wednesday. "This epic adaptation brings to life one of India's most cherished tales with unmatched scale and visionary storytelling," a press release issued by the makers stated.
What is Ranbir Kapoor-Sai Pallavi's Ramayana plot?
The director of the movie Namit Malhotra confirmed in an Instagram post that the Yash starrer movie is based on the Hindu epic of Ramayan. He wrote, "More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen. And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our 'RAMAYANA'– for people across the world."
