Rani Mukerji's cop thriller 'Mardaani 2' in trouble again, plea for ban on release filed
Rani Mukerjee starrer 'Mardaani 2' has been caught in yet another legal action as a petition for a stay on the film's release is filed at Rajasthan High Court.

In latest developments, Taslim Ahmed, a resident of Kota has filed a petition in Rajasthan high court demanding a ban on release of Mardaani 2. petitioner claims that im of city of Kota could be tarnished by its portrayal as a crime hotspot of country. plot of film details a fierce female police officer, essayed by actor Rani Mukerji, in her quest to track a serial rapist and murderer and setting of film is predominantly city of Kota, Rajasthan.

As a precursor to this move by a local resident, a few days ago a corporator from Kota named Gopal Manda h sent a legal tice to Censor Board chairperson Prasoon Joshi, film's producer itya Chopra, director Gopi Puthran, and Information and Brocasting Ministry. In tice, demand h been raised to change name of Kota in film, with claim that film maligns name of city. Unless name of city is removed, screenings would be blocked and matter would be taken to High Court. In dition to this, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, an MP from Kota, h said, "It is unacceptable to malign a city's name through cinema. fictional story clearly mentioning city's name is t justified." writer-director of film, Gopi Puthran h also issued a clarification over controversy stating that events and incidents that take place in film h connection with selection of Kota as setting and that re h been intention to tarnish reputation of city.

"Mardaani 2" is a sequel to Rani Mukerji's critically acclaimed 2014 hit Mardaani, directed by Preep Sarkar. Rani is reprising her role as cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in new film, directed by Gopi Puthran. Produced by itya Chopra, film will hit atres this Friday on December 13.
