Ranveer Singh, who is currently riding high on the back-to-back success of his blockbuster films like Padmavat, Simmba & Gully boy. Has made a special place in millions of hearts with his hard-hitting performances. He will be next seen in Kapil Dev's Biopic titled 83. His unconventional looks, solid personality on celluloid, and, gregarious outgoing nature makes him more than desirable. With 15 movies in his kitty, he has made a compelling place for himself in the Hindi Film Industry. Ranveer has done two exceptionally distinct historical characters. First as Peshwa King Bajirao in Bajirao Mastaani and second as Alauddin Khilji in Padmavat. RS has proven the fact that he’s a versatile actor, which truly reflects in his body of work. His movie choices have been very divergent and parallel from his contemporary’s.

Historical characters played by Ranveer Singh

Peshwa Bajirao Ballal in Bajirao Mastani(2015): This was the first time Ranveer was about to do such a serious role. An avid believer of ‘Method acting’ he prepared for this role for as longest time to get into the skin of the character. Ranveer Singh even shaved off his head to look convincing in the film. The film did wonders at the box-office and it began a new inning for the actor after a few flops like Kill Dill and Lootera. From the songs to performances of all the actors, the movie was a piece of art. Songs like Vat lagli, Pinga topped the radio charts for a few weeks. Ranveer’s character Peshwa Bajirao falls in love with the Princess of Bundelkhand (Deepika Padukone) despite being married to Kashi (Priyanka Chopra). It was a dramatic love story.

Sultan Alauddin Khilji in Padmavat (2018): When Ranveer played Khilji, the critics and audience were left awe-struck with his effortless portrayal of the cruel king. Khilji was mesmerized by the beauty of a Rajput queen Padmavati ( Deepika Padukone), wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh ( Shahid Kapoor) King of Mewar. He tries to win over Padmavati with his power but the Rajput queen fights back and sacrifices herself before Alauddin could reach her. It was a story of pride and glory of the Indian queens in that era. Ranveer’s performance was so impressive that, one cannot imagine anyone else doing the role. This was the first time Ranveer played an antagonist, and he simply stole the show with his stellar performance.

Similarities between Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat:

  • Both the films were directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
  • Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone were the lead pair for both films.
