Review: Scorsese’s ‘ Irishman’ is mature and melancholy

runtime is most boring aspect of Martin Scorsese’s ” Irishman ” to dwell on. “ Irishman” is much more than just ar mob story after all. It’s also story of a filmmaker in late sts of his career reconciling with one aspect of his life’s work. “Silence” was that for his religion-med films. But “ Irishman” is more effective and clear-eyed attempt — t to mention more accessible to audiences than a tale about 17th-century Portuguese Missionaries.

Paci doesn’t make his entrance into film for quite some time, but his arrival and gravitas gives film a jolt exactly when it’s needed. It’s almost needless to say that seeing him and De Niro toger again is a special delight.  actors, director and script never get lost in plot — this is rare film that makes you feel as though life is really happening around mafia machinations, of which re are plenty.
