Saand ki Aankh a real-life story

The movie is based on the real-life achievements of two sharpshooters, Chandro and Prakashi Tomar. While Chandro Tomar is the world’s oldest woman sharpshooter from the village of Johri in Uttar Pradesh, Prakashi is the second oldest sharpshooter and is from the same village. She also happens to be the sister-in-law of Chandro Tomar.

India's oldest sharpshooters

The two Tomars are highly acclaimed shooters and have won over 100 national shooting competitions. Both started their career after they had reached their 60s. Chandro started sharpshooting in 1999 and Prakashi only a year later in 2000. The two sisters-in-law have been termed as the Shooter Dadis and Prakashi is also often referred to as the Revolver Dadi

Chandro first started shooting at the age of 65. Her granddaughter wanted to learn how to shoot and joined the Johri Rifle Club. However, Chandro was shy to join an all-boys club. When her granddaughter was too scared to use the pistol, Chandro took over to show her how to shoot and managed to hit the bullseye on her very first shot. The club coach at that time, Farooq Pathan, was highly impressed by the older woman’s skill in shooting and advised her to become a sharpshooter.

Similarly, Prakashi also joined the club to accompany her daughter, who wanted to learn how to shoot. She was 60 years old at that time. Prakashi shot the target to teach her daughter how to hold and use her gun. Once again the club coach was surprised and impressed to see Prakashi’s shooting skills. He then asked her to become a professional sharpshooter, just like her sister-in-law.

In the film Saand Ki Aankh, Taapsee Pannu will be playing the role of Chandro Tomar while Bhumi Pednekar will play her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar. The official trailer for the movie has been released.
