Have Anurag Kashyap-Nawazuddin Siddiqui once again proved that they are one of the best partnerships in Bollywood? A journey that started with ‘Black Friday’ and is going strong as ever, as was evident with the recent season of ‘Sacred Games’, is now being recognised on a global platform. After ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, the duo’s first full-fledged collaboration made it to The Guardian’s list and Nawazuddin was praised by 'The Alchemist' writer Paulo Coelho, now their show ‘Sacred Games’ has been nominated for the International Emmy Award.  Nawazuddin Siddiqui couldn’t stop praising his frequent collaborator, terming him an ‘epitome of innovation in cinema’.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character of Ganesh Gaitonde has attained a cult following, particularly for its one-liners. Anurag Kashyap directs the track involving Nawazuddin, while that involving Saif Ali Khan and others have been helmed by Vikramaditya Motwane in the first season and Neeraj Ghaywan in the second.

Earlier in the day, Anurag Kashyap had exulted ‘what a day’ after the nominations were announced. The director had two more reasons to be happy because the anthology film ‘Lust Stories’ was nominated for the Best Miniseries, while Radhika Apte, who had featured in Anurag Kashyap’s short film, has been nominated for Best Actress.

Recently, the two-part ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ was the only Indian film to feature in The Guardian’s list of the 100 best films post the turn of the century. The movie had famously turned out to be the turning point in Nawazuddin’s career.

Previously, Coelho called Nawazuddin a 'great actor' and 'Sacred Games' 'one of the best series'.
