Actor Saeed Jaffrey, a veteran of dozens of Bollywood and international films, was known for his diverse roles. He was born in 1929 in the northern state of Punjab. According to his reps, he was the first Indian actor to tour and perform Shakespeare across the U.S. The Chashme Buddoor actor is the first Indian to have received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama. The actor was married to a well-known actor, food writer and television personality Madhur Jaffrey. The Man Who Would Be King (1975)
In this Technicolor adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s novel of the same name, Jaffery played the role of a Gurkha soldier named as Billy Fish. In this small but vital role, the actor showed his mastery over the craft. The cast of the movie includes three Oscar winners namely, Sir Sean Connery, Sir Michael Caine, and Christopher Plummer.
Shatranj Ke Khilari (1977)
The movie saw him playing a rich nobleman obsessed with the game of chess. He neglects his wife and duties to honour his passion. Acting alongside Sanjeev Kumar, this role made him win the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

Chashme Buddoor (1981)
The Sai Paranjpye directorial Chashme Buddoor is a romantic-comedy film which features Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Saeed Jaffre, Rakesh Bedi and Ravi Baswani in the lead roles. Saeed Jaffrey was nominated for Best Actor in Supporting Role in 29th Filmfare Awards. The remake of the film was released in the year 2013 and was directed by David Dhawan.

Gandhi (1982)
The movie saw Jaffrey playing the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The movie went on to be nominated for Academy Awards in 11 categories and won eight of them. As per IMDb reports, the Indian government provided one-third of this movie's budget. It was also the twelfth highest-grossing film in the U.S. in 1982.
My Beautiful Laundrette (1985)
This comedy-drama based in London saw Saeed Jaffery playing the role of Nasser who is a successful Brit-Pakistani businessman. He was seen in the character of the paternal uncle of the main lead actor Omar. For a small period of time, the film also focused on his extramarital affair with Rachel, a British woman.
