Salman Khan who is currently shooting for 'Dabangg 3' in Madhya Pradesh has been dragged into a religious controversy after some pictures of a 'Shivling' covered with wooden planks started doing rounds on social media.

This led to a major argument between BJP and Congress. BJP lawmaker Rameshwar Sharma, in a statement, said: "Incidents of religious sentiments of Hindus getting hurt have gone up ever since Kamal Nath-led Congress government was formed in December last year."

Post this, Congress Media Department chief Shobha Oza said: "We are t required to respond to Sharma's statement, but due to narrow mindset of BJP leaders, state did t see development during 15-year rule of party."
Congress leader and Madhya Pradesh's Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Jitu Patwari came out in Salman Khan's support and said: "Salman is such a wonderful actor who always spread mess of religious harmony. But, BJP's thinking is full of hatred and this party want to take political advant by creating enmity among people. BJP should give up this kind of mindset and stop creating hurdles in development of state," Mr Patwari said.
Salman Khan later clarified by saying that Shivling was covered with wooden planks to protect idol and maintain its sanctity. He said that planks were removed, according to reports.
