With the power-packed performances, Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha's film 'Section 375' is running well at the box-office. With an opening of ₹3.52 crore on the first weekend, Ajay Bahl's courtroom-drama collected a total of ₹8.04 crore at the domestic box-office. The film earned ₹1.45crore on Day 1, ₹3.07 on Day 2, and jumped slightly to collect ₹3.52 on Day 3. The audience has appreciated the subject of the film. Section 375 has proved one more time that content is the king when it comes to storytelling.
Section 375 deals with the issue of rape and sexual assault. After the recent #MeToo movement, Bollywood has become more vocal about the issues of rape and sexual assault. The movement has also helped expose the brutal reality of sexual and mental harassment in the film industry. As a result, the movie strikes a chord with the audience.
The film is expected to reach a ₹20 crore over the next few days. If the film collects the expected amount, it will be an apparent hit at the box-office. The movie was first screened at the third edition of the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival this year. Akshaye Khanna's previous film 'The Accidental Prime Minister' was also a hit and managed to collect a total of ₹ 24 crores at the box office.
The plot of the film
The story is about an Assistant Costume designer Anjali (Meera Chopra) who files a case of sexual assault against a film director Rohan (Rahul Bhatt). Advocate Tarun Saluja (Akshaye Khanna), reopens the case in the high court for his client Rohan after he is found guilty in the session court. This is when Hiral Gandhi (Richa Chadha) comes into the picture as a public prosecutor. The court-drama has a logical and factual debate along with some compelling dialogues. As the plot starts developing, it also starts unfolding the suspense of the story. The facts thrown into the narrative makes Section 375's climax predictable. An interesting fact about the cast of the film is Ammaji fame actor Kruttika Desai appeared on the big screen after almost 30 years.
Section 375 is competing strongly with the mass-entertainer Chhichore, a multi-starrer comedy-drama film. The movie is also competing against last week's rom-com film 'Dream Girl' featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Nusrat Bharucha in the lead roles. The film has got limited playout but has shown strong momentum gaining in metro areas.
