Shahid Kapoor in remake of Telugu film 'Jersey', confirms director
Shahid Kapoor will star in Hindi remake of superhit Telugu film 'Jersey' starring Nani. The film is scheduled to release on August 28, 2020, director confirms.

After the success of 'Kabir Singh' which was a remake of Telugu film 'Arjun Reddy', Shahid Kapoor is all set to star in yet another Hindi remake of Telugu film 'Jersey'. The film will be directed by Gowtham Tinnanauri, who also directed the original film. Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh confirmed the news on Twitter. Shahid Kapoor starrer is being produced by Allu Aravind, Aman Gill, Dil Raju. The film is scheduled to release on August 28, 2020.

Talking about the film and casting Shahid Kapoor, the director, Gowtham in a statement said: "I'm really looking forward to remaking my film 'Jersey' in Hindi and taking it to national audiences and there is no one better than Shahid Kapoor to recreate the magic of the original for Hindi audiences." There were reports that Shahid has hiked his professional fees after Kabir Singh's success and allegedly demanded for Rs. 40 crore for this project.

Rubbishing the rumours, Shahid in an interview with entertainment website said: "I have to sign a film to receive any money. I think the only people who are making money are Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani. I have exactly the same bank balance I had before Kabir Singh, I have to sign another project before I get paid."

Jersey is a Telugu sports-drama film released in April 2019. The plot of the story revolves around a father-son duo. The father, played by Nani, restarts his career in his late 30's to fulfil his seven-year-old son's wish to get an Indian Cricket Team's jersey as a gift. The movie reportedly collected ₹ 48 crores at the box-office.
