Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are all set to arrive in cinema halls on Diwali on November 1. Since the two are festive releases, all eyes are on how the box office and the audiences would embrace them. Meanwhile, a war seems to be brewing between the makers of the two films over the issue of screen sharing. Teams on both sides would want a higher showcasing as Diwali promises box office returns. A reduced screen count would automatically result in lesser business.
Advance bookings uncertain for Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
With the release date of November 1 fast approaching, the advance bookings for the two movies would have normally opened up by now, given their theatrical debut is coinciding with Diwali . However, since there is a stalemate over screen sharing, the advance bookings remain uncertain. It is likely that only once the issue is sorted out, will the bookings for the films will be announced.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 makers allege unfair trade practices, but team fires back
T-Series has reportedly approached the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to intervene and ensure 50-50 split of screens in most major theatres across India. This move came after it was reported that Rohit Shetty and the team of Singham Again convinced India's leading exhibitor, PVRInox, to showcase their film more, resulting in a 60-40 percent share in favour of the Ajay Devgn -led franchise.
Now, it is being reported that Anil Thadani, who is the distributor of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, has also clubbed the upcoming film Pushpa 2 with his deal to exhibitors and single-screen owners. Makers of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are not backing down as they are certain that the Kartik Aaryan starrer can ensure full houses during the festive period. So they are viewing the 60-40 share as unfair to them.
How single screens emerge as the game changer
The main bone of contention will be single screens, as reported by Box Office India. The makers of Singham Again are banking on single screens to offer good returns given how the previous films in the cop universe have been a major pull in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The national holidays-- Diwali and Bhai Dooj-- are expected to be big for business and the loss on these days cannot be compensated for.
