Legendary lyricist Gulzar has contributed a lot to the Indian cinema through the power of his words. The poet, lyricist, writer and film director was born in the Jhelum district of Pakistan. With his magical words, Gulzar has made us go beyond the world with his beautiful lyrics. The renowned and veteran lyricist is now 85 years old and has kept us entertained over nearly seven decades with his amazing work.

1.“Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi Shikhwa Toh Nahi. Tere Bina Zindagi Bhi Lekin Zindagi Toh Nahi”

The lyrics are from the movie Aandhi which was released in the year 1975. The political drama film features Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen in the lead role. As per media reports, the film was banned during the national emergency of 1975. After this film, Sen retired from the industry and she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Also, the film itself won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie.

2. “Aane Wala Pal, Jaane Wala Hai. Ho Sake Toh Isme Zindagi Bita Do. Pal Jo Yeh Jaane Wala Hai”

The song is from the movie Golmaal. Comedy film Golmaal was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and written by Rahi Masoom Raza and Sachin Bhowmick. The film was remade in various languages such as Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. The film features Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt and Bindiya Goswami in the lead. Actor Amol Palekar received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

3. “Tujhse Naaraaz Nahi Zindagi, Hairan Hoon Main. Tere Masoom Sawaalon Se Pareshaan Hoon Main”

An adaptation of 1980 novel Man, Woman and Child by Erich Segal, the movie Masoom featured Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi as the lead actors. The film's screenplay, dialogues and lyrics are penned by Gulzar and music is composed by R.D.Burman. The film also starred Jugal Hansraj and Urmila Matondkar as child actors. Other hit songs of the movie include Lakdi Ki Kathi and Do Naina Aur Ek Kahani.
